New Faculty Orientation 2015

Your full participation in this orientation is expected and valued by your Department and School, as well as by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Recognizing that an authentic orientation to a complex teaching and learning community cannot be packaged within a few hours, we encourage you to participate in seminars and workshops offered by the Center for Innovation in Teaching Excellence throughout the year. Visit our Web site (www.colum.edu/cite) often for current postings about these programs and for other resources for faculty.
The two quotations at the top of this page echo a philosophy that runs deep in the Mission and Purpose of Columbia College and which is reflected in the qualities of our faculty who work professionally at the
subjects they teach and our students, who will author the culture of their times. As we begin the encounters that will shape our academic year together on Saturday, August 29, please come prepared to share with others a "learning moment" you have experienced as a teacher or a learner, an example of a time when you felt or witnessed a breakthrough that connected learning to life. We will share these moments as a way to explore our own teaching philosophies and get to know each other.
Participants in recent New Faculty Orientations have consistently reported that they felt more deeply connected to Columbia College Chicago because of our Orientation program. We look forward to meeting you on August 29; to helping you make your connections to Columbia; and to learning with and from you throughout the year.
Collegially,
Lott Hill Soo La Kim
Executive Director, CiTE Director, CiTE
